Volunteer Benefit & Requirements

Our Blue Bird Auxiliary serves six hospital campuses throughout the Methodist Healthcare System. We have specific needs at each facility. These needs are listed below. We try very hard to place you in the department of your choosing. However, meeting the needs of our patients, visitors, staff and current volunteers is our first priority. If you can help meet our needs, we would love to give you a rewarding experience at one of our facilities.

  • Complete an application
  • Interview with the Director of Volunteer Services
  • Pay annual auxiliary dues
  • Obtain appropriate attire
  • Commit to work a particular shift and at least 100 hours annually

All Blue Bird and Blue J Volunteers wear a regulation uniform top which is issued in the Volunteer Office. Volunteers must also wear comfortable low-heeled rubber sole shoes purchased elsewhere as well as long non capri style pants (black or white for Blue Birds, khaki for Blue Js and Child Life). For the health and well-being of our volunteers and our patients, we require that all volunteers be immunized against Rubella (German measles) Rubeola (red measles) and mumps.

Volunteers will provide to the Employee Health department all of the following:

  • Documentation of prior vaccination for MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) if born in 1957 or later.
  • Documentation of any previous TB skin testing within the last two months.
  • Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccine if you have received it.
  • Documentation of the VZV (Chicken pox) vaccine if you have received it.
  • Documentation of the TDap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis) vaccine.
