Service Opportunities

So Many Ways to Serve

With various areas to serve across Methodist Healthcare, there are many ways to share your time and talents as a Blue Bird. Whether you enjoy helping patients and families, assisting behind the scenes, working in the Gift Shop, sewing from home, or supporting special projects, there are a variety of opportunities to explore. Volunteer opportunities vary by hospital and availability, and the Volunteer Services team can help you find an opportunity that best matches your interests and schedule.

Please note: Physician shadowing is not offered through the Blue Bird volunteer program.

Take a look at some of the ways Blue Birds make a difference every day!

Gift Shop

Information Desk

Be a welcoming first point of contact for patients and visitors. Help provide directions, answer questions, and create a friendly, reassuring experience from the moment they arrive.

PATIENT ESCORT/TRANSPORT

One of our largest volunteer opportunities, Patient Escort/Transport volunteers help patients navigate the hospital from admissions through discharge. Often one of the first or last friendly faces a patient sees, Blue Birds help make every visit feel a little more welcoming and supported.

GIFT SHOP

Help create an inviting shopping experience for patients, visitors, and staff. Volunteers assist customers, organize merchandise, and help keep the Gift Shop looking its best.

ADULT EMERGENCY ROOM

Make a difference in a fast-paced environment by supporting patients, families, and the Emergency Department team. Volunteers help provide comfort, assistance, and a friendly presence during what can often be a stressful time.

NEWBORN INTENSIVE CARE

Provide meaningful support to NICU patients and families during an important time in their lives. Volunteer opportunities may include assisting families, supporting the unit, and helping create a caring environment.

PEDIATRICS/CHILD LIFE

Help brighten a child’s hospital stay through play, activities, and friendly interaction. Volunteers provide companionship and encouragement to children recovering from illness or surgery.

Methodist Aux

FLOOR DUTY

Help make a patient’s hospital stay a little more comfortable. Volunteers support patients, families, and hospital staff by assisting with non-clinical needs and providing a helpful, friendly presence on the unit.

Methodist Volunteers

SEWING COMMITTEE

Use your creativity to bring comfort to patients from the convenience of home. Sewing volunteers create handmade items such as heart and fish pillows, caps, and other special projects like holiday stockings for newborns.

SURGERY WAITING ROOM

Be a source of comfort and support for families while their loved one is in surgery. Volunteers help provide information, directions, and a reassuring presence throughout the waiting experience.

PET THERAPY

Pet Therapy volunteers and their certified therapy animals bring comfort, smiles, and companionship to patients, visitors, and staff. Together, they help create moments of calm and connection throughout the hospital.

BABY CUDDLER

One of the most popular volunteer opportunities, Baby Cuddlers provide gentle comfort and a caring presence to infants in the NICU & PICU. These volunteers help support babies during their hospital stay while offering an extra measure of warmth and connection.
